Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have been exposed to human blood or bodily fluids?

For MSU employees: Immediately flush or scrub site. After washing site, inform your supervisor and go to the Primary Care 1 at MSU Student Health Center (formerly known as Olin Health Center).

Time is very important - you should be at the UCC or Emergency Department less than one hour after the incident.

If the source is a person, your supervisor should inform them of the exposure and request source testing. The UCC can advise what tests are appropriate for the source.

If the exposure happens when MSU Student Health Center is NOT open, go to the Sparrow Hospital emergency department (do NOT go to the after hours clinic). Take an Authoriziation to Invoice MSU and let them know that you are an MSU employee that has had a bloodborne pathogen exposure.

MSU health professions students may find information at the Exposures to Blood Borne and Other Pathogens Web site.
