MSU's Vaccination/Immunization Policy for Students

MSU regularly updates its immunization policy for new undergraduate students based on the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This policy requires students complete the Immunization Self-Report form to report their vaccination status.

The following vaccines are of particular importance for college students.

  • 1. Hepatitis B (series of three) if one has never had hepatitis B
  • 2. Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) after Tdap, needed every 10 years)
  • 3. Meningococcus
  • 4. Varicella (chickenpox) if one has never had chickenpox
  • 5. Measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) two does recommended for those born in 1957 or later

Below is a list of vaccines you may want to consider.

  • 1. Influenza vaccine yearly in the fall: recommended for all adults over age 50, young people with certain health conditions and for anyone wanting to protect themselves against influenza.
  • 2. Hepatitis A is recommended for some people with certain health conditions or occupations.
  • 3. Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine: (for women only) a series of three immunizations for prevention of cervical cancer.

Vaccines are available from Olin Student Health Center for a fee, from most other county health departments, or your personal physician. Some of the vaccines at county health departments are offered at reduced or no cost.

Information about the recommended vaccinations and their costs are listed in the Immunization Guideline Chart.
